One it comes to wearing a corset especially when it comes to waist training, one of the most popular questions that I hear all the time is “Can corsets help you lose weight?”
In a one word answer, I would have to say “Maybe.”
You see, every person who wears a corset is going to have different results. As I mentioned in another article on when you should see results from waist training any type of change in your body will vary depending on different factors.
With that being said, although I can’t guarantee that you will lose any weight on the scale when you start wearing a corset there is some scientific evidence that backs up the claim that you can lose weight from wearing a corset.
If you know someone who has had any type of gastric weight loss surgery you are probably familiar with the way this works. The stomach is basically cut in half and doesn’t allow for the stomach to expand to eat more food once past a certain point.
A corset, when worn properly can actually sort of act in the same way, just in a less dramatic fashion. The corset provides the external constiction on the stomach and doesn’t allow for it to fully expand like it would if not wearing a tight corset around your waist.
This basically means that you are able to eat less at one time, which can make you lose weight.
But, this doesn’t mean that you can’t work around this, just like some bariatric surgery patients do. You could eat less at one sitting but you could also eat more frequently, which means that you wouldn’t lose as much weight or any weight at all.
This doesn’t mean that you can put on your corset and just magically lose weight somehow. Weight loss doesn’t work this way. But wearing a corset on a regular basis can give you that compressed stomach that doesn’t allow for full expansion and also helps you be aware of the portions you are eating. If you have ever worn tight pants or worn a corset or tight shaper before you have probably experienced this feeling to some degree.
Although putting on a corset may not make you magically drop 15 pounds, do keep in mind that wearing a properly fitted corset can make you appear as though you lost 10 pounds even though you haven’t. For some women this is motivation enough to really drop the pounds and picture themselves smaller.
Corseting can also give you that confidence to walk taller and feel sexier with your already pulled in waist and lovely curves. That confidence can help you in your weight loss pursuits as well as other areas of your body. It can help you with social anxiety you may have due to the extra weight as well as just give you some bravery that you need to be the confident woman you are.
